Merlin A. Henkel, President & CEO

Mr. Henkel most recently served as Regional President of Resource Bank from 2000-2005. Prior to that he was President of Main Street Bank - Central and President and board member of Regency Bank (both now a part of BB&T), and a former Vice President of Central Fidelity Bankshares in Richmond, Virginia. As an active member of the central Virginia community, Mr. Henkel has served on the Community Bank board of the Virginia Bankers Association, is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western Virginia, and served in the past as Chairman of the Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, Inc. Mr. Henkel is a 1977 graduate of Wake Forest University and a 1982 MBA graduate of The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Thomas L. Hotchkiss, Chief Credit Officer

Prior to joining Virginia Business Bank, Mr. Hotchkiss managed a private consulting firm, Hotchkiss Group, LLC, where he served on a contract basis as the Chief Credit Officer of Consolidated Bank and Trust Company in Richmond, Virginia. Before that, Mr. Hotchkiss worked as a Senior Consultant with New York based Allomet Partners, Ltd., a business turnaround consulting firm. Prior to working with Allomet, he was a Senior Vice President of Branch Banking and Trust Company in the credit administration group. Mr. Hotchkiss served in as Senior Credit Officer of MainStreet BankGroup in Richmond, prior to the company's sale to BB&T. He also worked for Signet Banking Corporation in Richmond for 12 years Mr. Hotchkiss has been an instructor of Asset Based Lending for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank and served for several years on the board of the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, Inc., including a term serving as Board President. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration, concentration in Finance, from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business, University of Richmond.

Barbara T. Kallus, Chief Financial Officer

Known to friends and colleagues as “Brad,” Ms. Kallus was vice president and CFO of Tyringham Holdings, Inc., a $40-million retail jewelry company operating in Boston and Richmond. She also served as controller of Investors Financial Corporation, a $2-billion financial holding company of the former Investors Savings Bank of Richmond. Ms. Kallus holds a bachelor's degree (1981) and an M.B.A. (1990) in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Virginia and has served on business school advisory councils at VCU and the University of Richmond. She is a board member of several area charities.
